1967 merc 70hp marothon with the thunderbolt motor

are these motors pretty fast or what, i have a 16 ft runabout, havent had a chance to take it out yet since i bought it, going out the weekend though, wondering if this motor will get up to speed quickly with this boat.

I had a '65 - 65hp on a heavy 15'er and it did 33mph and got on plane quickly.

They did not make a 70 HP Merc in 1967. The four cylinder 65 horse Mercs of that vintage were great motors. They made a 6 cylinder 70 Horse Merc in 1962 that was a screamer, but it may eat your dock, (direct reverse). They tend to grab rpms easily if in good condition on fairly light boats. JR

I have a 72' 65 hp merc and I get 30mph out of it.
