I have had recent problem with water not pumping through to engine and with Bond -O's help have determined that the impeller is not working properly. Here's what I've got. I Can turn engine over and can see that the shaft is turning, at the top where the large brass screw is, but the rubber impeller stays still. I'm not sure, but I may have a bad impeller. The brass, metal, piece that was conected to rubber impeller is now separate from rubber. They were one solid piece when they were put on, but looks like the rubber has separated. It's not supposed to be two pieces, is it? Also I have mercruiser manual and it shows all the water pump and impeller schema for all other motors, but not for the 80. None of the diagrams in manual look like what I have. My stern drive only has one impeller and it's a the very top of stern drive and I do not see evidence of a pin or impeller key at this point looking at my boat. I only see one brass screw that the impeller slide around. Lastly I was able to just pull rubber part of impeller off of metal insert but cant seem to get the large screw out to remove metal part of impeller to replace. Is there a trick as I do ot want to damage anything?

Help Please!!!!!!

Re: 1967 mercruiser 80 Impeller problem?

Please disregard this post. I've figured out my questions and resolved Impeller issue. The Impeller was in fact defective and I have found a new one $60. As for not being able to pull the metal insert off of shaft, bought Impeller puller, $55., and it came right off. I can now see how everything is suposed to work and should be in the water this week end. Priceless!!

Thanks,
