serial number 2489015, Mercury 350, 35 hp Twin.

The previous owner installed a impeller water impellor prior to my purchase. However, I think he goofed along the way. The motor pumps water like you would not believe, but the reverse lock is not engaging (no movement at all). I have checked and rechecked my manual, and I am making myself more confused.

It appears that all the parts are there, but they are not moving when the motor is shifted from forward to neutral to reverse.

Can someone give me the short and dirty steps to aligning the separate cam? Can I merely seperate the lower unit a few inches from the motor, or Ginder75 I fully remove it?

Re: 1967 Mercury 35 Reverse lock

I pulled my Seloc Manual again last night and there is no reference to a reverse lock and the lower unti section. I thought there were three shafts coming from the lower unit (drive shaft, shift selector, and the the water tube.) And it was my understand that on the shift selector there was a cam that engaged the reverse lock.

And it was possible to get proper operation (motor will shift from forward to nuetral to reverse without error) but the cam is not engaging the reverse lock.

Where did I go wrong?

I am painting the interior of my hull this morning and my project of this afternoon was dropping the lower unit and seeing if I can rotate the cam 180 degrees. Should I do this, or is there something else I need to consider?
