I have recently bought the above motor. First question is how can i tell if this is a manual or electronic shift model. My research shows 3 different variants available. I do not see any wires going down from the powerhead to the lower case. should i be able to ? Also person i bought it from is the 3rd owner of it and i have the service records clear back to 1980. I show the lower unit serviced multiple times since new.

It did come with the original Simplex shifter with 2 levers. Do these motors shift the same as manual or electric ?

An RD*** would be a manual shift. It will have a shift lever on the starboard side. Electric shift would be an RK***

Yeah, I know. Actually, the electric shift was better than the manual shift---in it's day. But this is 50 years later and parts are high priced, or unavailable, wires are rotted out, and ignorance has taken over. Nobody understands them or how to fix them, nor has the special tools. So sad.
