hi everyone i am new to the forum I have a 16 ft 1968 Larson 120 hp All American I had trouble with the OMC tilt mechanism my local repair shop has taken it apart played with it put in a new clutch pack it worked fine for a couple of times but appears to be breaking off some pins inside and now the lift motor just free spins my mechanic guy seemed to indicate that there is no way to stop the motor from going too far up or down and that causes the pins to break there must be some way around this as it's never had this problem before also any tips on how to get the motor up so I can trailer it thanks very much

practice bumping or jogging the tilt switch every so gingerly in the down position so the drive doesn't slam. Those pins are sacrificial and they break if you slam it down. From 1964 to 1985 OMC never came up with anything different so no one's likely to do anything much 30 years after they stopped making that foolish setup.

To raise it for trailering, grab a 9/16" wrench. Remove the 3 bolts holding the moon shaped gear port side of the drive. Lift the drive and reinstall the gear or tie up with rope.
