1968 35 hp merc wont pee and runs real rough

i got the new starter in all the wiring was brittle so i taped it up. put it in a tub of water way past the inlet holes on the lower unit,,it burped and pharted then ran rough for a bit, as all this was going on it wasnt spitting any water thru the outlet. the motor ran for 2 to3 mins or so and it got a little hot so i shut it down,,my question is , where is the pee hole on this 1968 merc 35 hp twin be? shouldnt i see the water streaming out? also it sat in a barn for a few years, should i go right thru it points condenser etc? impeller kit? thanks dave

email me since the faq is down, will send you awakening a sleeping outboard. it will get youon your way. yes you need and impeller,carb kits. lower unit oil, at least it runs.

Ok im sorry for stealing your thread but im having the same problem with a 9.9 horsepower outboard i cleaned the carb and now it finally runs yet rough but it still doesnt pee

should start you own thread, no pee, replace impeller and if it has a thermostat that also. a 9.9 is not a very good description. there's lots of them. try runing some weed eater string or the like (ouch) up the pee hole, insects like to nest there.
