Does anyone know where cooling water should exit on a 1968 55 hp Evinrude? Also, when I run the motor with muffs on, it seems to "over-cool", meaning the cyl. head is not even luke warm. Is it possible that pressure control valve or check valve is stuck open. I did replace the impeller and thermostat. I have not run this motor on the lake yet as I have just finished rebuilding it - I've only run it with muffs. Any help would really be appreciated!

There is no pee tail on that motor. If everything is cool to touch, everything must be OK. There is also no pressure relief valve on that motor.

I believe that there is a pressure relief valve as shown in the parts manual. Also, the housing is visable with the lower unit removed. Does anyone know where the cooling water should exit?

Rodneys, thank you for the breakdown. I understand that there is no by-pass stream, tell tail or pee stream that lets you know that the water pump is operating. What I'm trying to say is: where does the water that has cooled the engine exit? Is it from the prop hub with the exhaust or does it come out somewhere else, keeping in mind this water should be relatively warm when it exits. Again, thankyou for the breakdown link and info.
