I now have spark and i am getting fuel into the cylinder's but I can't hear it firing or even trying im going to try to replace the plugs as they are pretty old and the spark seems to diminish with the goes from being bright blue to a more gold/yellow and it is quieter than with the spark tester, but since they are sparking would it still be worth while to replace the points and condensors?

You say the spark diminshes between blue and gold/yellow, that sounds like your coils are going bad on ya, but, don't run out and buy coils on just my say so. I would put in new spark plugs as that's routine maintenance anyway and even the points and condensers (but start with the new plugs).

Yeah, I was thinking of doing the cheapest/easiest parts first. Does anyone know if oreilly's or autozone would carry the parts? I know I can get the plugs there but I'm not sure if they would have the proper points for the motor.

Can't help ya there Mables, although, I'm sure that NAPA would have the points. If you can't get them locally, try here on Iboats. I just ordered some stuff here and got it delivered in 3 days! Good luck to ya, and keep us posted.

Well the new plugs helped, it started and ran for all of about 3 seconds and then died. I'm thinking I may need to sync and link as it only fires when the throttle is advanced at a certain point anywhere else and it just spins without ever firing, I called orelly's and they said they would be able to get the parts. So I'm going to link and sync first and if it still isn't purring then ill replace the points I had cleaned them as best I could and set them to .010 and they spark correctly, however I noticed on the flywheel that where the marks are on it aren't where tdc is. Someone has scratched into the flywheel where it is so would I be correct in assuming it isn't the original flywheel? If so would that affect the timing of the motor?
