hoping for some help. I have recently aquired this boat and motor and the wiring was shot. after rewiring the entire motor to spec I had problems with the float bowls on the carbs stiking.that problem fixed. had problems with silinoid that has been replaced. then had no fire to plugs. checked plug wires and stator all seems well. all ov a sudden she fired up ran approx 1 min . shut her down to put everything back up and get more fuel was almost out. sence then no fire agian. after taking all apart again found rotor assembly twisted out of position with the little nub on the underside gone wich holds it in place. replaced this and still no fire. confused applifier assembly seems to test ok. don't know what to do next lost. wenzel  :( :( wenzel@ci.cedar-park.tx.us

Wenzel....

Yeah this can be a pain in the butt to troubleshoot. But we'll try to help.

If memory serves here, your system is a 12volt system, meaning your amplifier needs a direct 12 volt source. Hope you have a manual cause I may not get the colors right.

The 12 volt source to the amplifier is the purple wire, I believe. Make sure you have 12 volts here.

Have you checked the point gap? These should be set to .010 if I recall.

A peak reading volt meter would be nice to read the amplifire output. Don't recall what that is. If you have output from the amp, then the problem lays after it. Check the rotor tab is clean and not worn down to far as to lose contact with the distributer points. Also check the distributer for cracks and that the points are not to dirty.

When you replaced the flywheel key, was it the right one and did you torque the flywheel to specs?

If you have a manual, there is also an ohmmeter check for the ignition coil.

Sorry I can't give you any more specific info on the tests readings but maybe I have got you pointed in the right direction.

thanks outboardjim i have been out of town for the last week. but i managed to talk a guy i know into giving me a coil for this thing. i found numerous cracks in the casing of the coil. I did clean and regap the points and she fired right up ye haw. :D ran her for aproximatly ten minutes and she ran like a champ. first time i have actualy heard her run for any length of time. i then shut her down to put the carb cover back on and she won't start again. no fire again.  i just don't know what is wrong. maybe the amplifier assembly is going out. but it checks out fine. i'm lost at what to do now.wenzel
