1968 55hp Evinrude Triumph....wiring?

OK....trying to do a few things with my old boat which has the aforementioned 1968 Evinrude 55hp Triumph motor, 55873R.

First, the wiring for the lights, etc., are a mess under the console and I want to straighten them out, but I only have a very generic wiring diagram for that....and nothing that shows wire color/connection. Anyone know where one can find something more specific than what you see on websites like shop.evinrude and the like?


Second, I really want to install a tach, but I don't know where to tap into the motor's wiring to get the proper signal. Anyone know?

The manual has a fairly decent wiring diagram. As far as the Tach wires,... the gray one near the ignition is for your tach. There is also a black ground coming out of the harness there,too.
Not sure what you need to do to the lights, or what the problem is, but I have the same motor, and I know the original indicators are a pain to try and replace. For the on/off, and temp indicator, I just cut them off and wired in little LED's.
