Hi Guys,

I have a 1968 .. 65hp Evinrude. How do I test the stator. When I had the flywheel off, I felt two of the windings were warm/hot. Also will running the motor with a bad stator damage the battery? I want to take the boat out for just a short trip so I can check out the lower end.

Thanks

You check the stator with an ohm meter. The resistance between the 2 wires is only 1, or 2 ohms. You then check each wire to the stator core to see if it is shorted. A bad stator just won't charge the battery, but a shorted stator could burn the wiring.

Thanks for the reply,

I checked it with my ohm meter, I got an infinite reading which the manual says the widings are good however, when I connected the meter between the wires going to the stator an infinite reading indicates the windings are open. Is this a good stator or bad? Thanks

If the windings are open, the stator is broke.

c/6
Hooty
