I have a 1968 65hp Johnson model # VXL-14B. I'm mounting this on my boat but not sure exactly what I'm doing to be honest...LOL I have read alot about measuring and making certain I'm straight and level. But this motor has two mounting Brackets?? I'm not sure what they are they are metal arms not attached to the motor with a couple bolts in them what and where do they go in the mounting process.. any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if I supplied enough info but I will be on here for a while tonight so go ahead and ask away if I need to clairfy something.

Like this?

If so they get mounted on the outside of the transom and the motor plate slides down inbetween them. Then there are pin bolts on the outside of the arems that get screwed in to lock the motor to the arms.

Take some measurments and make sure the holes you have will line up. If so bolt the 2 arms to the transom but leave a little loose. Then lift the motor up and slide it in place. Bolt everything down tight before you take it off the hoist.

I had another question for ya, is that the only mounting that you do to the engine. Or do you run any bolts through the engine mounting bracket, I noticed there were a couple threaded holes through the bracket?? Not sure if they needed a bolt through them or not.

I have only ever seen 2 bolt per side on the arms (top and bottom). I'm guessing that the threaded holes are probably for a electric tilt cyl. maybe??? Don't know as I've never seen an old motor with one on.
