Motor runs but waiting on impeller parts. My knob is missing but bought a used BRACKET AND FUEL CONNECTOR ASSEMBLY with the knob (0380892). The knob has square shaft that threaded shaft fits over it from inboard side. threaded part is not in any diagram i can find but i have it. Dose this work by tension against gear on end of control shaft? I may be missing other parts but can not find a good image of that spot. The assembly bracket has bent shaft so would rather replace just idle control but cant remove knob. Is this a gotta have it or live without it thing? thanks

I am familiar with it... just not to clear on what you need here

the knob limits the travel of the round grooved push rod which limits how low the idle rpms will run...before konking out
as you turn the knob the tiller handle will rotate

it does not create any tension on the tiller back gear it just limits travel to a set point for idling

the threaded part is actually inside the grooved cam (silver color) part #23

Not sure if threaded part is in my motor. was hoping i could remove knob from part i bought and screw it in mine but don't think it works that way and haven't got the replacement knob out. Here it is with threaded part slid off.

well the knob is held in with a tiny snap ring so will have to remove the bracket assembly no matter what to reinstall. thanks crosbyman you got me on the right track. And this motor is 1969 or newer i believe now, threaded piece is part #62

the design and function is rather simple so whatever happened to create all this grief, "bending" and need for replacement parts.

by the looks of those parts I can't say that motor as given lots of TLC and grease :-(

motor got the duck hunter treatment sometime in the past. that part came from a part seller. 9.5 came on a Lund snipe I've been fishing out of with 3hp Evinrude that runs like a sewing machine thanks to this site. 9.5 had around 75 psi per cyl when i checked it before buying, and it started right up and shut it off as i couldn't put it on the water that day due to 50 mile gusts!

these motors (some models anyway) manage to smoke themselves to death by leaking exhaust fumes past the big seal in the lower housing and up to the carb . some have resorted to lobotomies in the cowls above the carb

pita to take apart apparently and seal are manuf disc.

if it ever happens to one of mine I think i'll just try canned foam (for windows and door frames) shot in the lower housing...

Been reading up on that and other problems. Big seal looks good but will see. The foam is a good idea. The water tube to block sounds like a nightmare so hope it's good. Forgot the IMPELLER HOUSING seal 031000 so hope it's good as well If tube stays put will try running it and hope i get a good spray out of exhaust.

replaced the whole thing and fuel lines. then removed lower unit and found this mess. Cant get the impeller off the shaft.. Should slide up right? I dont want to pull the shaft out of gear case. Only thing holding impeller is crude and a good dose of spite i think. soaked it with zep45 and thought I'd see if anyone had advice, thanks.

Pull the shaft out !!---Need to inspect the bearing surface above the spline.----Post picture of area above the spline.-----Easy as it will slide right back in.

Pulled it and looks like new. Then spent an hour getting the seal out of the pump base and new one in (2minutes). Got some more cleaning/prep and will get it back on the snipe tonight and tank test in morning. If all go's good >,,o

try and locate all the impeller parts to see if you can get a picture of anything missing that could... have gone up and get stuck in the cooling cavities.

Thanks i reconstructed the pieces and maybe a few BB size missing. Tank test in a few hours. I have a new thermostat but looks like i don't have everything to do it right. Comedy time was trapping a gear wrench against the lower housing removing a bolt for the idle/fuel bracket. only 1/2" i could find for awhile. Got the lower leg back on while wife was going on about bla bla and wear plate was laying on the bench, 2nd times a charm.

Pumps water! But water also comes out between lower motor cover and exhaust housing. Water temp out of exhuast hole is good, if it was coffee i'd heat it up. Not sure it the idle adjust knob works or not but idles nice.
