I am currently working on my sportwin. But I have a few questions.

I am not getting any water coming out of the back of the motor. I have tried cleaning it out with a wire,(maybe something made a nest), Then I shot water in it and reverse flushed it. (everything seemed to flow). I took off the lower united and shot water up the copper pipe that stick down from the top half of motor, near the shaft. (water came out of the back of the motor fine.) I open the cap that holds the impeller, (How do you know if the impeller is bad?????????)

Also, Is the copper pipe supposed to go into the tower that sticks up on the housing assembly that goes over the impeller, the tower is which the impeller shoots water up????

If so, should the coper pipe be straight, Mine seems to curve and maybe Kinked a little.

Thanks for your help. :)

Re: 1968 evenrude sportwin 9.5 question

Copper pipe often is not straight, mine a has a dog leg in it (1959 10hp)
its supposed to fit into a socket in the head with a seal, use a flashlight to make sure its seating in properly.

Look for cracks in the water pump vanes, flex them by hand, heck if I was in there I'd change it anyway.

Be real careful putting it back together, the copper tube can come undone from the powerhead real easy.

Re: 1968 evenrude sportwin 9.5 question

would you replace the impeller or the whole pump?

are there any gaskets or seals, that I need to check or make sure are tight?

Learning as i go.

Thank you.

replace impeller, unless the rest is really worn or scared. you've got the pump open, why not replace it.

Re: 1968 evenrude sportwin 9.5 question

I open the pump housing, I was shocked.

I think I am missing a part. 0309583 WASHER,Seal (according to Evinrude's website) http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=e85860075123995a42b861cfeb120e9b

I also think that the housing is chewed up really bad around the area the drive shaft goes through, Seems like that pin the impeller is set on, may have chewed away the metal.

What do I do now??????????

Looks like all the parts are available. Examine everything and replace what is damaged. It won't be cheap, but that should fix it up just fine.

Re: 1968 evenrude sportwin 9.5 question

should I end up buying the kit, for like $70?

what all comes with the kit is the big question? (Housing, impeller, all the seals and other parts does it have the part I am missing?)
