1968 evinrude 40 hp twin help

Hi All i have a 1968 40 hp twin evinrude model 35530L serial 05923 any help from previous owners would be awesome, manual on the way this is my first boatr and motor, i by trade am a mechanic and recognize some of the parts hehehehehe anyway the motor sat for a while and know i need a carb rebuild leaking like a siv i finally got it to start in a trash can i had no water coming out of anywhere i could see alot of turbulence in the can and SMOKE lolol where if and when does the water come out of unit i will be rebuilding carb new water pump and therm if has one, and draining and refill the lower unit lube is there anything else anyone would do before going out to get stranded thanks again good ole boy in missouri

Howdy, DSL DOC.<br /><br />Sounds like a good plan to me.<br /><br />You might do a compression check and maybe a decarb as well.<br /><br />Good luck.

thx man for the reply can ne1 help me out on where the water comes out and how do i find out if its pumping water
