1968 evinrude 6 hp??

Hey guys im new to this site. Hope yall can help me out.

Iv'e got an evinrude 6 hp that runs good in a barrel with the hood off and it runs high rpm's at full throttle in gear, but when i put the hood on it dies down slowly like it has no power and when i take it off it revs back up.

Anyone know what the problem is??

Yes, you most probably have an exhaust leak into the engine compartment.

The problem is simple: You are running it in a barrel. When you put the hood on it breathes smoke out of the barrel. It needs fresh air to run. Put it on a boat in the lake and it will be just fine.
