I have a 9822E motor which should be a 1968 Sportwin 9.5 and I started having an overheating problem, I rebuilt the water pump but I am still having the problem I also looked at the thermostat which seems to be functioning but I think the cause may be the copper tube that runs down into the water pump housing. I think it may have broke off at the top because when I removed the gear case the whole tube came out with it. My question is should it saty connected on the upper end? If so where is the upper fitting, do I just need to take off the gear case and lower unit?

Thanks I figured it out, just needed to be re-flared at the top.

If you flare the top, it will be difficult to replace through the shift rod boot and plate unless you remove them. You risk tearing the boot.
