I went out this morning in the cold and now my motor is heating up and shutting down. Before I left the dock I check to make sure water was coming out because it was so cold. So now I am wondering if maybe I sucked some ice through the water pump or some trash. Either way I don't think it is pumping anymore.

How do I get to it? I pulled the bottom four bolts from the lower unit.but it drops down about 1/4" and stops and it seems to be stopped up by the shift mechanism. I don't know what other bolts to pull please help.

Once you have the four bolts removed and the space open between the midsection and the gearcase, you can see the connector for the shift rod.

Remove the bottom screw from the connector and the shift rod can be released.

Keep the screw out until after you replace the shift rod on reassembly.

Hint: you can increase the opening by moving the shift lever at the engine.
