1968 johnson 55hp tries to start but wont

I have an old 1968 johnson 55hp TRL-10 and when I crank it over it pops but wont start. I think it might be a timing issue but I have no idea on how to set the timing on this thing. If you have any idea what it might be please help thanks.

Has it ever run for you or is it a new motor to you? Plug wires might be crossed, but it's a triple so it should be obvious.

Lots of questions, how is the compression, how is the spark, is the fuel delivery OK? The battery needs to be in top condition and fuel needs to be fresh and mixed 50:1.
