1968 Larson All-American What motor is acceptable

I have a 15-foot Larson. It had no title but the previous registration says 1968. Inside the transom is #503768: would that be a model or serial? Looking at online pics, this appears to be All-American, but who knows? Photo attached.

The lake where I intend to use it says boats may not be powered by a motor larger than the maximum rated for that hull. It has a (1976) 85-HP Johnson. Is that acceptable?

Also (and forgive this newbe if this is the wrong place to ask), it has Power Tilt and Trim. Use of the power tilt is obvious, but what is the "trim" which seems not to work.

You are way overpowered with an 85 on a 15'r. I would think that the max should not exceed 40hp. Power tilt will tilt the engine up and out of the water. Trim is for fine adjustments for max performance and is used to compensate for load fore & aft.

I have that same boat and my manual and hull I.D plate says max HP is 75HP

Wow that's a lot for such a little boat. Hold on tight if you go that big. Also remeber that the capacity plate probably assumes a vintage, 2-stroke motor, which are generally quite a bit lighter than their modern, 4-stroke counterparts. If it will hold a 75 2-stroke, that's probably closer in weight to a modern 50-60 hp 4-stroke outboard.
