Have a 1968 Mercruiser 160 I6 cyl. with the original 35 amp alternator with electronic voltage regulator. Can I change to a higher AMP alternator and use the same voltage regulator? If so what would be a safe increase in amps with this voltage regulator in mind? Thank you Rich

I would go with a modern alternator with internal voltage regulator and re-wire as needed

I wouldnt go nuts, however a nice 65 amp.

to keep your existing voltage regulator, you would need to keep with a vintage designed alternator (set up for external regulator).

Agree with Scott and would suggest, do not go with a one wire ALT
