Hey everyone, my 55hp outboard has been stalling after high speed runs for a couple seasons now, it won't restart unless it sits for 3-5 mins, at first I thought it was a fuel issue, low speed needles are set to 5/8 turn out. I tried leaning and richening the low speed to no avail, now I am thinking ignition maybe powerpak overheating? Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

HI Thunderhawk. The symptoms you're describing are classic signs which suggest that something in the ignition is at fault. If/when electronic components get too hot they can/will fail and remain inoperable until they cool down again. I would pull the flywheel and give everything a thorough inspection. You may have a cracked or broken coils, which is not at all uncommon on these old motors. Not to worry, they're quick, cheap and easy to replace. Give a look and let us know what you find.

The coils are not under the flywheel, and there is nothing cheap when replacing ignition components on that motor....

Try a can of electronic "freeze spray" on the power pack. That would pinpoint an overheat problem with that.
If that does not help, you need a proper troubleshooting checklist for that motor.
I had the Johnson version of that motor....a manual is critical at this point unless someone weighs in with the detailed instructions.

Otherwise, you'll just be throwing $$$$ at it.
