Hi,

My 68 45 hp outboard was running perfect when I put it away last fall. I just tried firing it up for the first time this season and it just continued turning with the electric start but would even sputter. I have made sure there is fuel getting to the carbs. It does not appear that I have any spark coming for either coil. Any ideas? How could this have happened out of the blue like that?

Thanks,
Mike

Breaker points corroded during storage. Take them apart, polish each contact shiny bright, reassemble & set gap to specs. Betcha it'll run.

I am a newbie with only a little mechanical knowledge and no experience with outboard motors. Can you tell me where the breaker points are located? Does the flywheel have to be removed to get to it? Thanks for any help!
