Hi, My old man owns a '68 Starcraft Holiday V, which he has owned for around 22 years or so and it has slowly fallen apart and been neglected by many mechanics and even my own father. So, I want to fix it up slowly over a period of a year and a half or so(engine overhaul next year-AQ131A).

There are a couple of main issues that I'm picking at right now but don't want to wreck anything as parts are hard to come by, so I have a list of Q's:
1-How do you remove the middle, swinging window in the center from the frame(made of plexiglass and has cracked(original?)?
2-what kind of exterior wood could I use that I can stain and seal and use for the whole dash frame(White pine, cedar, fir, etc)?
3-and what are the uses of the scoops on the boat-2 facing forward half way up and 2 facing to the rear at the rear?

I'm in the process of rebuilding the carb., the starter is coming out and the motor cover(plywood box) is being redone by a friend and will be recovered.

I have fished in this boat since I was 3 and I still am. We fish every weekend and even used it as an ice breaker once or twice. I have to fix it up around this schedule as there are many Muskie tournaments coming up.

Thanks,
Chris

Welcome to iboats! We love Starcrafts here!

You might have to remove one entire side that the center is attached to....... I would visit a glass store and ask how much to replace it. Go with Lexan which is harder then Plexi and resists cracking and scratching. Tempered glass is the standard but WOW that is big money.

Take a look at our restorations (in progress and completed)..... Mahogany is real pretty. Some people even use starboard (plastic).

Those scoops are so you do not blow up  to evacuate gas fumes from below deck..... usually have a blower and hose attached.

Let's see some pictures!! ;)

Thanks.

I remember there being ducting once but it was torn out to support more fishing rods. I don't know if there is a blower motor there but once I get to rewiring the boat I'll find it.

I just rebuilt the carb. and got it in beautiful running shape, next is the starter, gauge cluster(replacing the dash panel).

Also I included some pics of a Volvo Penta inline four that is for sale. I was wondering what model designation it is (i.e. Aq****). I found it for a $100 so it would be worth it I guess.
