Well the subject about says it. There is no shear pin behind the prop. Broke 1 of 3 blades off prop. What is most likely to be damaged in the lower unit drive? I have worked on all kinds of car things but not boats. Runs well. Thanks

Check to see if prop has a clutch to protect against damage in these situations

Thanks for your reply. I am going to start the motor up this weekend and make sure the drive shaft does not turn in gear. If I am lucky as hell it will spin and the Prop will be all I need. The prop does have a large rubber O ring inside that looks like it may act as a clutch slip mechanism but I am not sure. It is an after market Prop for ski torque. It seems solid in there, however I will know more this weekend. The nut holding the prop on was not very tight at all, just a slight nudge with the wrench and it was free. The cotter pin holds it on. When I hit the rock last fall I had to be towed in no power at all to the prop. That is all I really know at this point. Thanks!

The big rubber thing in your prop that looks like an O ring goes between you hub, and the prop..

its not supposed to spin and if it does, its a problem.. (well you got to replace the prop anyway, so its not a big problem.)

your motor is likely to be either a Selectic or a Hydro Electric..

do a search on this BB for those, and you'll get a ton of info...

regards

Frank
