1969 55hp evinrude electric gearbox help

G'day all I have a 1969 55hp evinrude with electric gearbox that's been giving me hell..I've basically rebuilt the damn boat and now I need to replace the push button gear selector with something new other than the ****ty old ones that have fallen apart and weathered badly..does any1 have any ideas on how to replace these with another type of new style switch that will work with the way it needs to b wired..I was going to use an old school car headlamp switch (the pull/push style)

I know how to do it, but the only thing I can tell you on this forum is to get the proper switch for safety reasons. And to keep your gearcase from blowing.

I found an evinrude 60 hp from late 60's early 70's with electric gearbox like mine..he had the control with the push button gear selectors and all the solanoids too so made him an offer and he said he wants 200 for it..he didn't want to seperate it but I think I've convinced him too..can't wait to fix this thing and sell it then start on the new boat..
