Please help. I am trying to set up the carbs and ignition timing on an old 1969 johnson outboard and it is a verry picky engine. I have a clymer's manual and it is not verry specific as it covers about 10 years and multiple engine displacement sizes. My biggest problem is the base ignition timing at idle and the full advance timing at wide open throttle. The book says to set base timing at 2 degres atc. but I'm not sure where top dead center is. The flywheel has one oval mark and one arrowhead mark and the starter pinion bracket has one square mark. The problem is when it is running pretty descent the marks are no where near the pinion bracket mark. I tried to rotate the number one piston to top dead center while holding a screwdriver against piston but it was not accurate
