This goes to a sensor on the block near the sparkplugs, and then into the wiring block on the motor, then down the wiring harness to the control box, and then nothing else. Is this supposed to be hooked up to something? I'm not certain what the wire does, others here talk about a buzzer that should go off, or does it kill the motor when it overheats?

Re: 1969 55HP Orange wire?

Orange wire connects to one side of either a buzzer or a light. the other side of the indicator connects to the "I" terminal on the ignition switch.

"I" terminal provides power only when the switch is on. When the engine overheats, the sensor on the block closes and goes to ground, power flows through the indicator from the "I" terminal and it buzzes or lights.

It confuses a lot of people because the orange wire has a factory crimped on terminal when most times it is not necessary. I, however do like to run it and other wires through a terminal strip mounted under the dash, so the crimp-on is handy.
