1969 55 hp J55EL69? , there are two yellow wires coming off the stator that run around motor to rectifier. Are these two wires carrying the same voltage/purpose? i.e. what if they get reversed? Mine were badly cracked/frayed and i snipped them before i realized the wires were identical (may not be original). I'm going to need to redo the harness, i took pics but they're identical their whole route.

Re: 1969 55hp wiring question

Anybody please? I ordered a service manual but itll be a few days, really want to see if i fried anything earlier, but dont wanna blow a stator or rectifier. Again there are two yellow wires coming off stator going to rectifier, can these be interchanged or do i need to pull flywheel and chase wires?

If both of the wires were the same color, with no tracer on one wire, there is no polarity to worry about, just hook them up.

They carry AC voltage....polarity is non-issue...they are functionally identical.
