after 10 years of this motor sitting I tried to get it running. The carb is gummed up. As I was trying to start this motor the cord came untied. How can I put this back on with the spring keeping tention? So far I can't get it to wind back. Thanks!

It probably wrecked the spring from the backlash when the rope came out.

The procedure for rewinding the spring after replacement is to wind it up a specified number of turns and then stick the handles of a pair of pliers under the pinion gear which holds it engaged with the flywheel so it doesn't rewind. Then thread the rope in. I would have to hunt up the specified number of turns.
