Model 85ESL69M 1969 on a 72 trihull cobra myself and another on board with a minimal load.
Went out this past weekend for the first time after "waking it up" from a looong sleep (full tune up, all lowerr unit rings and seals replaced as well as new plugs and prop.) and luckily only encountered this one issue which im hoping is an easy one. This is whats happening: The motor fires right up on the first try almost 9 out ten tries and idles perfectly. After half throttle it planes out smooth but when i go a touch more it just smoothly seems to die.
I tried to start it again and it wont bump or turn which made me realize my gear shift lever was stuck forward even though i retacted it back to neutral at the throttle control. I understand the neutral saftey switch was obstructing the engine from cranking while the shift lever was sticking but what could be causing the engine to die like that? Also, it didnt die at all when i got it restarted and trolled back to port at about 1/4 throttle which was about a thirty minute run.
Any helpful info. would be much appriciated!
*also, got 125 psi compression on all cylinders if that helps*
