Re: 1969 chrysler 9.2 recoil trouble

hey, i JUST finished mine yesterday with about 2 hours into it...you need 3 hands. basicly what happened is the curled end of the coil spring unhooked from pully itself, you have to take the whole thing apart, be careful and make sure that everything goes back together the same way, hard to describe , bear with me after removing it from the motor flip it upside down, in the center theres two plates that can move off to an angle, if those arent EXACTLY the same it wont grab onto the metal cup and turn the motor!!!!!!!!! carefully remove the half moon type pin around the bolt and it all will slide up, then pull up on the pulley itself but if you feel tension holding it back push it back down and turn it a few times, whats in their is a beasty coiled spring and if that is caught on the pully as you pull it out, youll have to wind it back up which is a pain!so as it slides off easly with no resitance youll see what needs to happen for it to work, the curled end in the slot...thants not the end of it, turn the pully so you know which way makes the coil build up tention, on the outside theres a slot for the rope to turn around with it without winding it up, you need to find how many turns will not only wind the cord all the way up but keep a good amount of tention on it so that it deosnt pop off again. its all trial and error, you just need patience!!! and more patience. after you figure this one out next time it will be better, but i had to take everything apart and redo it like 6 times before i had it just perfect, hope i helped...peace
