Howdy, y'all. I've rebuilt the boat w/ y'alls help. Now I gotta rewire the engine/ controls.
I got a control/ wiring set from a junkyard to replace the torn up mess I had. It actually fit the old plug.
But the wiring cluster from the plug into the engine is totally shot, and not enough wire extending from the plug.
Bottom line is, I have to get some sort of 7-wire waterproof plug to connect everything once I get it wired.
I have the wiring diagrams and have done lots of wiring, so that part's no problem. I just need to get a plug set that I can hook the wires to. Mechanical connections would be great, but If I have to splice them in, that'd be OK too. Anyone know where to get one?
Thanx

The OEM connectors weren't necessarily always waterproof. If you are willing to forgo that part, how about a couple of trailer light connectors?

Re: 1969 Evenrude 40 HP wiring

Thanks for the link Master. Gives me more to look for.
I'd looked at using a couple of the 4-wire plugs. But they're all 14-18 ga wire. There's at least 1, maybe 2 in the harness that'r 12 or 10 ga that I'd have to do separately.

The 7-pin plug looks like the best bet so far, tho it is VERY un-water-tight.

>>Next question: Do they make a good crimp connector for wet application? If so, where would I get them. Can't find so far.

I bought one of the 7-pin, but it turned out to be an adapter of one of those types to another (connected together). Can't really tell from the box. I'll return it and look around for a set. Also, very "clunky" about the size of a baseball and hard plastic, so have to find a place to put it. They run ~$30-$40 a set. I figure I'll get some good electrical tape and seal it up, take it apart to dry out each time.

My main concern w/ these is that they come w/ 7 relatively short wires that have to be spliced, and they're not long enough to cut off 6 wires to stagger the splices, so there's this big bundle of crimps. I'll go check out the RV shop.

Thanks. Lemme know if any of y'all run across anything else.

If you are looking for either barrel connectors or the spade type connectors look around at the delcity link that was provided for the other connectors. I have bought connectors and wire from them in the past. The connectors were crip on that were shrink tube heat sealable after the crimp with a low temp solder that would melt with the hot air from the heat gun. Best connectors I have found so far. I would call the weather proof not completely submergable waterproof.
