Hello-

Does anyone know how I can remove the bronze bushing that the shifter rod goes through on a 1969 evinrude 25HP? I need to remove this bushing to install a new gasket and o-ring which is below it. Is there a special tool needed? Can't seem to get anything in from the bottom to drive it out. any tips would be great. Thanks!

The tool you need to remove the shift rod seal looks like this - I got mine on Ebay. It's long enough to reach in that recess where the bushing is to drive it out. Just a couple taps with a hammer, and the bushing is out.

I made my own removal tool cutting off the head of a long 1" wood boring bit. It just happened to fit perfectly.

I made my own from a piece of metal from my kids old crib. It was a 5/16" rod about 16" long (length doesn't really matter) with one end ground down (tapered) to a 1/4" or so point... The 1/4" is not critical either. Works on all the engines I have tried it on...
