I was performing the breaker point test per the manual when... Okay not exactly "per the manual". The manual has you hook a 12 volt test lamp to the breaker point to amplifier lead and the battery side of the starter solenoid. With the distributor positioned at full advance rotate the flywheel and when the timing marks align the test lamp should extinguish. It did, sort of.
I didn't have a 12 volt test lamp so I used a multimeter set to DC voltage and the 20 scale (digital). When the timing marks aligned the voltage dropped from 12 volts (battery voltage) to 4 volts. I found this strange, I expected the voltage to drop to zero. Hmmm...
