This engine I bought with the boat, it runs great, BUT, I believe the High speed jet is clogged. It will start, idle perfect, but when I try to go high speed it sputters, and if I pull the choke out halfway, it will run at a higher speed no sputter, but still not optimal, Plugs are new and firing, coils are new, points are new, fuel pump new, Carb looks like it was pulled and rebuilt, but no filter on the gas line. Sorry for ramblings...My question is are there any videos, tutorials on taking off this carb, and cleaning it? I have cleaned others but none this small. I would hate to screw it up, its a nice motor. Thanks for any help!!

Carb is very simple. Throttle linkage is a bit unusual but not complicated. Take a good look at it before taking it off. High speed jet is in the bottom of the carburetor, behind the hex drain plug. You are supposed to use a special screwdriver to remove it without damage. If you don't want to do that, well.....

Thanks for the reply F_R. I was wondering, since this carb was just off in the last 6 mths, is it possible to remove the hex screw and spray carb cleaner in through the orifice, after removing the hex screw, without removing the carb, or does the float and all need to be removed to even get to it?

I don't remember how easy it is to get to with the special screwdriver without removing the carburetor. Maybe you can. But for what you are proposing, it certainly can't hurt. What you do not want to do is go jamming wires & drills & stuff through it. The jet is a precision part to be treated with respect.

Yeah was just trying save a little time and gaskets, the screw (hex) plug in front of the jet is easy to get to without taking off the carb, but I do not think I would even attempt to take out the orifice without pulling the carb off. So.... Probably gonna end up buying a kit and pulling it. Then I'll have to look at this "special screwdriver" you speak of, probably end up having to order one of those too! But thanks for your time and responses, much appreciated.

The screw driver isn't so special, I made one by finding a long phillips head driver that just cleared the diameter of the hole and then grinding out the tip. You could also make one from a piece of drill rod or similar.
