A friend of mine bought a 1969 boat with an Evinrude outdrive. There is a plug on top of the drive that is supposed to have a dip stick as part of the plug. My question is without a dipstick, how can my friend know where the outdrive oil level should be? I stuck a screwdriver in the hole til it touched I'm guessing was the gears (about 3 inches) and there was only 1/8 of an inch of oil on it. Hope someone can help on this forty year old boat. And believe it or not, it still is in great shape.
