1969 evinrude / Johnson 115 wiring help needed. Ok hear is my dilemma. I bought a force 125 to replace my old evinrude 115 that was running fine. I just wanted something newer with power trim. After messing with it more than I used it I decided to put my trusty old evinrude back on the boat. I have a shop manual that I?m trying to use but not all the wires are the same color as the book says they are. I only have four wires that I unhooked from the terminal block that come from the controls. I didn?t touch the wires coming from the rectifier, pulse pack, or stator. I also have the diode and lead assembly hooked up. , That I did take off, now the motor turns over sparks but when it starts it just shuts off. All the wires that I didn?t touch do not match up with my manual; they are in the wrong place, do I start over and pull all the wires off and make them match the manual even though it ran fine before I took it off? Please forgive me if I rambled or left something out I wanted to put everything down that I did. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hello there... I just acquired a 69 Johnson 115 motor the other day, and I am running into the exact same problem you are, I think. I am NEW to boat motors in general, and what is happening is that it will run just fine if I hold the key to the "start" position, but it kills when the key returns to the "run" position. I'm thinking that someone replaced the starter solenoid with the wrong type, but I am not 100% sure. Do you think you could point me in the direction you took to resolve your problem?

Thanks a ton!
