Hi Van.

Go to the top of this screen and read the notice to posters.

What is it? What model? What year?

If you fixed it it would fire.

Give us something to work with. :)

Hi.....this is Van's wife.....sometimes I worry about that man and his abilities to express what he's really trying to say....We have "acquired" a Glassmaster boat that has a 1969 Evinrude Starlite 85hp motor. This boat hasn't been touched in about 2 years. I think he explained the trouble but if you need more information let me know!

Thanks!
Leah ;)

Re: 1969 evinrude starlite 85 hp motor

Hi,Leah.

Van's post has been erased, so there is no explanation, but if I remember correctly he said he had it running but it "jumped time". He "fixed" something and now it wont fire at all. Is that correct?

You need to start by getting a manual (you can buy them on this site).

Follow the instructions for troubleshooting the ignition system.

Once you have spark if still doesn't start, try spraying some fuel mix into the carburetors while trying to start. If it then tries to start, you have a fuel delivery problem or water in your fuel.

Let us know what you have found, and if you still have problems we will go from there. :)

Thank you very much. He was trying to get it fixed for us to take out on Mother's day but looks like that's not gonna happen! I'll let him know what you've said and will let you know what I find out!

Leah ;)

Hi, Van.

I don't have a manual on your engine and I don't remember the ignition system.

I would start by pulling the flywheel again and look for some damage to the coils or wiring. Then I would get an ohmmeter and ensure that the kill circuit isn't preventing spark.

If I hadn't found anything by that time I would go get a manual. :)

Good luck.
