First you should really have a manual before any repair.Library may have manuals for reference.<br /> Or you can get at NAPA,the tab at the top of the page,amazon.com,ebay,etc.<br />Disconnect blue reverse wire and green forward wires at rear of engine.With ignition switch on<br />with shift lever in forward or reverse wires <br />from shifter should show voltage to ground of 12 volts.No voltage indicates problem with shift box or wires.With ignition off shift in neutral<br />measure resistance of green a blue wires from lower unit to ground 4.5 to 6.5 ohms.improper<br />reading indicates broken wire or shorted coil.<br /> Full 12 volts must be available from battery for proper operation.<br /> Get that manual, it took me 30 minutes to look up and type with one finger.<br /> Good luck.
