Hello everyone! I have found tons of great info. from you pros in the past month and finally had a question of my own. I hope I started this tread in the right section since i though i read a similar post a while back with a similar problem but I couldnt find where it was.
Any how here it is, I am currently trying to remove the lower end of my Johnson 69 85hp I just got and it seems to be completly frozen. I dont know how long it sat but my guess is quite some time and by going through my manuel I removed all connecting bolts and it wont budge. Am I missing something? I hit it with some WD-40 every two hours for totaling 6 times yesterday and tapped it with a rubber mallet and still no dice. I thought I read someone using a heatgun but like i said i cant find that thread so im not sure where to go from here. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT!:)

did you get the bolt under the trim fin? also tie a string to the shift wire, so you can fish it back up. if you have all the bolts out, start one on each side back in. now remove spark plugs, and turn the fly wheel, hopefully it will drop. 99%, that the o ring at the top of the drive shaft went bad, and allowed water up into the splines, and they are rusted to the crank shaft.

I have taken off the lower end on that motor several times. I believe there is a bolt on the bottom too, up under the skeg. If you really did get all the bolts out then the shaft must be stuck. I have read where it can be a real hard job. Some one will come along shortly and give you better advice than I can. good luck.

That shift wire is located on the starbooard."right side" it will be under the power head going down through the crowl. This wire must be handled with care. I used dish soap to kind of grease it up. As daddy told you tie a piece of string on it so you can pull it back through. use heavy duty fishing string . i did.

If it dropped 1/4" and then won't budge your drive shaft is hung up.

If it won't even drop 1/4" you missed a bolt.

You are not so old and your memory is as good as it should be, considering all the information you have.

LOL@nuther boat...........Yes there was which is also removed. I'm now wondering if it has EVER been opened considering everybolt i took out had original paint on it intact with no tool marks.........I will give it another soak with the old WD-40 again........

I'd suggest something other than WD-40 - it's not that good a penetrating oil, that's not really what it's made for. Try PB blaster or some other brand labeled as "penetrating oil".
