Just purchased this motor. Does this motor have an adjustable shift rod? If so, what is the correct length from gearcase face to rod connector. Can not get motor into forward gear. Thanks.
The legnth is adjustable,I believe it is on the motor by the shifter, you if your going to keep the motor, may want to invest in a manual. The lower unit is fixed no adjusting on it.
I have a manual however I am unable to locate anything about adjusting shift rod. I can put it in all three gears by manually moving shifter. Problem is Reverse is engaged when shifter is straight up instead of slightly back from vertical. So when I rotate the shifter clockwise to engage the Forward gear, it is near horizontal. The control cable is pushed all the way forward but still unable to rotate shifter that much. Thanks for your help.
I know theres a big difference in years here and the mechanics,But heres something to look at and through trial and error you can get the shifter in its correct position. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=464575
You must not have the OEM Manual specifically for that motor?? Do you?
Thanks for the link to the other site. I have the Johnson Service Manual for the motor. However unable to find anything about a shift rod adjustment. It discusses adjusting the shift handle. I am thinking that the shift rod may be bent since it does not appear it can be adjusted. Any thoughts.
