1969 merc 100hp doesnt kick over

when i turn the key my engine wont turn over, the engine makes noise so there is connection but doesn't turn over and run, any adivce would be very helpful. thank a bunch.

Probably poor connections in the battery cables, Colin. Go to the Engine FAQs forum and do "Outboard won't start".
