Re: 1969 merc

Thanks for the info on my merc 350. I removed the wiring harness from the system. I didn't think 12 volts is suppose to reach the coil. Won't that damage it? Anyway, I got parts from Grubb's Marine Mercury Parts . I know they sell rebuild kits.

Re: 1969 merc

Hi Ratt,
Your motor is nearly identical to other 1966-1969 Merc 35s. The 1970 40hp had a different ignition system, but the powerheads are otherwise quite similar. A major re-design came about when they made it the model 402 - different carb & ignition (again!).
You can get lots of maintenance parts from NAPA (ignition kits, carb kits, fuel pump kits, waterpump kits, etc.).
For other parts, try Grubb's at www.oldmercs.com
- Scott

Re: 1969 merc

I'm not sure if the lower unit off a 1984 would fit a '69. Only way to know would be to try it. I suspect the reverse lock stuff is different, but I am fairly certain the shift and drive shaft splines are the same. Water should be the same, exhaust down-tube may be, too.
Carbs are completely different - different mounting bolt pattern...
- Scott
