Im traveling to New york next week to pickup a 100% referbished 1969 hydrodine houseboat with a 1969 40 hp sea king motor. I was advised this motor was totaly rebuilt last year. My question to you guys and gals is are parts easily availiable for this motor(props tune up supplies etc) or will I be in for trouble in the long haul? I am a inboard guy so this will be my first outboard.
Thank you,
Dgope

Re: 1969 sea king 40hp question

Give us a model number. They didn't offer a 40 in 1969. It's either a Gale or a Chrysler, but they are different enough to need clarification. I think the only 40 was a Gale offered from 1960-63. Parts for old Gales are about as available as old Chryslers, maybe a few more..

Re: 1969 sea king 40hp question

If it is a 40 Sea King it could be from 63,62 or 61 built by Gale.
Model number would be something like GG18XXX.
This would be basically a E/J clone.Routine parts are readily available.
If it really is a 69 it would be 35,45 or 55 hp.Chrysler.Fair motors but parts are getting harder and harder to find.Just compare to E/J here at iboats parts and you will get the idea.
