Sure can - standard throttle/shift controls and steering controls for a 60's era motor.

Re: 1969 steering and ignition

You can connect remote controls and steering, but it requires a funky adapter kit. 1972 models take kit #171879, $50. As far as I know, '69 should be the same. Go to http://shop.evinrude.com/ and click on "Electronic Parts Book" Then select "OB Accessories" from the drop-down list where it defaults to "Evinrude". Then select 1972, as old as they list. Then select "steering" Then the kit you want is listed as "Remote ctrl & steering con. kits 9-1/2".

EDIT: I just checked the paper copy of the 1969 parts book, and sure enough, it is the same part number for the kit. 171879.
