Spark plugs......Also what fuel mix ratio should I be using, I read somewhere 50:1 but I need more clarification on that............ be easy on me I am new to this whole boating craze I just thought it would be a great family project to retore an old boat and as always thanks for your help

Welcome to iboats. My best piece of advice if you are going to try to restore the motor is to get a manual, first thing, it will pay for itself many times over. Secondly, find out when the water pump was last maintained, including the impeller, very important. If you do pick it up, look into getting a new impeller in there right away. Another maintainence item you should do to a new motor to you is rebuild and bath the carbs. I would bring in a screw in type compression gauge with you , pull the plugs , and test the compression before buying. If it is bad, it is not worth restoring. The cylinders should be within 10 percent of each other. 50 to 1 is the correct fuel to oil ratio for that outboard. Also do a spark test if you get it when you get it home, that will help troubleshoot the no start problem. Good luck.

The fuel ratio depends on the engine model number, CG. It is probably 50:1, but without confirmation that the engine is 1964 or later don't take that as gospel.

The newly reformatted FAQ for "Outboard won't start" (thanks, JustMrWill) will help you narrow down why it won't start.

Good luck, and welcome to iboats. :)

post the model # of the motor so you can be sure, to use the right mix, and get the right parts.
