1970 115 hp evinrude water pump.

before dropping the lower unit you are suppose to disconnect the shift wires up by the powerhead. After doing that, does one have to remove the insulation wrap around the two wires leading down towards the gearcase?

you disconnect the wires, there is a grommet on the wire going thru the pan, use a small wooden dowl to push it out, be sure to tie a string to the wires, to pull them back up. also the grommet has to get back in place, a little oil helps, if you do not exhaust will come thru the hole., and effect the running of the motor.

where is the 4th vane? water tube, tstat?

if you look close its stuck together with another one.
