Well I've just about gotten this project finished up. It's my first boat rebuild so it's certainly been a learning process but these forums have helped me tremendously. I got the boat thinking it was in usable condition at least, and for a fairly good deal...I thought. Well it was raining that day and I traveled about an hour to go get it. The guy said the transom was just redone by him and that he rebuilt the deck......no dice. He might have redone both but failed to use any resin or fiberglass on either . Needless to say they were both rotted out. Oh and for his interior lights that he had wired up he used electrical extension cord running down the center of the boat in the drainwell covered in carpet glue and then carpet. Even though now I know I could have checked for all these problems and I should of, I was still a little pissed to say the least.
I don't have any pics of the boat in its previous condition but started taking pics after I had stripped it to the hull
On to the pics:

You've done a really nice job on that boat. Looks like a great fishing rig. It ought to perform very well with that 28 except you've got a long shaft motor on a short transom which is going to really hurt your performance.

Thanks for the kind words...guess I need to start looking for a short shaft for it. Me and my dad were talking about it being a long shaft motor.

What problems will I see with the long shaft vs the short shaft?
plane off? turning problems? speed?

Thanks again,
Jake B.

That's a nifty little search button...lol. Just read up on short shaft vs long shaft. I guess it'll do for now until I can find a kit.

It'll do for now but you'll lose speed, my kick up some splash and might not plane as well.

That long shaft is going to hurt you big time in that boat. Trust me I was there 3 months ago been there done that. Two options, sell the motor you have which you should EASILY be able to do and get a short shaft. Or see about getting a short shaft conversion kit for that motor.

As for the rest of your work NICCCCCEEEEE Job! You are doing a great job on that bass boat conversion. I am really interisted how you plan on doing your seat set up. Did you or are you going to build a fishing pole storage locker? That would be cool as well.

Keep the pics comming, oh and dont think we dont care because we do. Some days are better then others as far as exposure and guys taking breaks from their own builds. Oh wait that just might be me tonight, yup I confese I am slacking it tonight and spent time with my girls. But you are doing a great job and your hard work is paying off big time. Keep your head up and make your dreams a reality.

also got to splash the boat this afternoon to find the waterline and paly around a bit.
had to jimmy rig the positive wire to the terminal because the ring terminal I used was just a hair too small. Fixed this problem with a new one when I got home.

No Jake, your wrong about eyes on your great work--just takes time for folks to response.I do have a couple of questions;is the main deck removable? All I saw was ply with what looked like 2x4's mounted and laying in the bottom.Did the stick steering come w/the motor? I do love that set-up, always have! Beats the deal w/me working a tiller from the rear.I also like the added built in dash area-good idea!! That's a drawback on single sided boats--no place to mount stuff--now how'ed I know that??All-n-all great re-do!!

Re: 1970 14.5 foot fiberglass V-hull restore

Yeah the floor is removable...with a grinder lol. I put the 2x4 stringers in as support for the floor and the plywood sheets between them and to the sides to cover the drains from foam which I poured in after glassing the floor.

I purchased the stick steering seperate from the motor from ezy-glide. I think I will like having the stick steering, water pump rebuild comes in tomorrow so I will be able to run the motor then. I just didn't feel like building a center console and loosing space from it so I opted for this route.

One thing I'm kinda stumped on is how I can put the cover on the ignition side (which houses the throttle on the outside) to where I can take it off if need be. I thought about just screwing it on but I don't want it to leak if it rains. Should I just lay some cabosil resin mixture on it and screws then just seperate it with a dremel if need be? I'm thinking that's my only option.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jake B.

I think,if it were me,I'd do the same as on the stick side plate-That is leave off the glass and just run a bead of silicone beteen plate and cover--that way no water & easy access with a razor knive.I'm sure you'll want back in there to either add or change something from time to time.Reasons for liking the stick steer are many-a few-you can see so much better, not alot of running back & forth in the boat to fish, etc.Course that's just me.

Looks great! I have this same model, but do not know anything about it. Can you tell me who it is manufactured by and the name of this particular model. The manufacturer's plate is missing from mine.
Many thanks!
