Just got this 1970 evinrude off someone that needs it running in the springimage.jpg
I rolled it over with the plugs in and she has great compression. Unfortunately the top cylinder has no spark.image.jpg
Here's the flywheel off and the abortion of a puller I slapped together. It worked! What a surprise. image.jpg
The coils look good and the points are clean but I'll run a thin file through them to be sure. And as always, Murphy struck again, and the cold has drained the battery on my multi meter. Oh well, I'll be back in a bit to give you guys the results of the test.

Nice picture. Nice enough that the points don't look all that clean. Looks like they are oily. Maybe it looks better up close and personal

No the key is not sheared. Those are a few metal fillings from drilling out the bolt holes on the puller I made. I blew everything off, And nothing is oily it's just clean and corrosion free. Any idea what resistance I should be looking at on these coils? I'll just measure the one that has spark and compare. I think it's most likely the condenser.

Around an ohm on the primary and a few k-ohms on the secondary. Not all coils are created equal, so don't expect to find a certain exact resistance.

Seems there are a few more minor problems, plug wires are extremely stiff so it's realy hard to throttle up, and the tiller was loose (missing bolts) both coils are about an ohm 1 on the primary and .0025 on the lower secondary and .0018 on the upper secondary.

And the recoil spring is a little rusty. I just sprayed some fluid film on it and sticky problem solved. I'm pretty sure this thing hasn't been lubed since it was built. So all I need to fix this up is new silicone plug wires, a few new condensers and point adjustment, adjust throttle linkage, replace lwr unit gear oil. Hopefully that's it. Fingers are crossed!image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
